The Guru is Brahma (the Creator) and the Guru is Vishnu (the Sustainer).

The Guru is the Lord Maheshvara (Shiva, the Destroyer).

The Guru is truly the Supreme Brahman (the Absolute Reality).

Salutations to that glorious Guru.

To one who was blinded by the darkness of ignorance.

By using the medicinal applicator of knowledge.

By whom the eyes were opened.

Salutations to that glorious Guru.

To the teacher of all the worlds.

To the Physician who heals the disease of worldly existence.

To the treasure house of all knowledge.

Salutations to the Lord who faces South (the primordial Guru).

Of the Vedas, the Smritis, and the Puranas.

The abode of wisdom and the temple of compassion.

I bow to the feet of the Lord-like Guru.

To Shankara, who brings auspiciousness to the whole world.

Beginning with Lord Sadasiva.

With Adi Shankaracharya in the middle of the lineage.

Extending down to my own immediate teacher.

I salute the entire lineage of Gurus.
